Name: Giant freshwater stingray (Himantura chaophraya)
Status: Native.
Rare in its natural environment with main populations around the Chao Phraya and MaeKlong river systems in Thailand. As a result of its size it is a VERY very strong fighter which sticks to the bottom, battles can go on for hours. For anglers fishing in Thailand day or multi day stingray fishing trips are recommended for this monster fish. Giant freshwater stingray (Himantura chaophraya) stocked at Dreamlake in December 2003. 2 juvenile fish 25 inch long. The Max weight is possibly 600 kg which would make it the worlds largest freshwater fish.
