Name: Giant Mekong catfish (Pangasianodon gigas).
Status: Native. The Giant mekong catfish is critically endangered in his natural habitat of the Mekong river. It is one of the largest freshwater fish worldwide growing to max size of 300 kg +. It is certainly one of the most popular fish species in Thailand. Firstly Mekong catfish have enormous growth rates and secondly very hard fighting power. Therefore they are stocked to many man made fishing parks and lakes in Thailand. In the wild the Giant Mekong catfish (Pangasianodon gigas) are a rare fish on the verge of extinction due to over fishing and dam building projects which block the migration routes to its spawning grounds. Definitely one of the strongest freshwater fish world-wide. We catch them sometimes at Dreamlake Fishing Resort and regularly at Borsang Lake in Chiang mai sized up to 55kg. Average 10-30 kg.
Best bait: Bread-Mix on a method feeder
